Well, I was forced once again to reconsider the idea that I'm good with children.

I don't know. She was worried about a few things – standard teenage stuff, from what little I know about developmental psychology in the early 21st century – and I was talking her through it, and then she just snapped. Started screaming that I wasn't real. The next thing I know, Dmitri Lang is descending with fire and brimstone and removing her rather forcefully from my presence.

Well, we started off talking about the fact that sex, in and of itself, didn't have to be either an embarrassing or a taboo topic, and kinda spiraled on from there.

Embarrassment about developing sexual feelings is pretty standard, yes, though most people tend to get over it sooner or later.

How old was this girl again?

...For that matter, do you even know she's from a 21st century Earth analogue? In my experience, variations on Earth do tend to be the most common, but there are other worlds out there. Every once in a while we'd get an influx of people in the Nexus from Midgar, for example. Or Middle Earth, which as far as I can tell isn't an Earth analogue despite the name.

Point. I'm not sure; after so long without much teenage contact, I guess I tend to read things that look like e21C conditioning and quack like e21C conditioning as e21C conditioning.

I'm not sure how old she was. I'd guess no older than seventeen, though.

Yup, that's right about the age where they can't talk about sex without turning red in the face. It usually doesn't trigger breaks from reality though, not without some underlying mental instability.

Well, from what I can tell, she was also having a slew of identity issues concerning Rift shenanigans, or Rift shenanigans regarding identity issues, and after that she almost shut down affect-wise and got into confessions, and then, just like that, panic. So I wouldn't exactly rule underlying issues out.

Of all of Torchwood, I'd probably trust Phoebe most not to make a worse mess of this. Mercury's a good girl, but she's a little naive when it comes to these kind of things.
